William Vovers is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose work blends cultural heritage, personal storytelling, and a strong instrumental focus. Born to an Australian and Indonesian family, William learned the traditional music of his mother’s island of Kalimantan as a teenager. He learned three Dayak instruments under direct instruction from contemporary Dayak musicians. This immersion in musical tradition informs the tone, rhythm, and emotional atmosphere of his contemporary writing.
As a solo artist, William creates music centred on expressive instrumentals and a unique soundscape. He approaches songwriting as a space for honesty and reflection, aiming to reach listeners who connect with sincerity and careful musical craft.
Now based in Australia, William continues to refine his sound through ongoing performances, recording, and collaboration. His newest collaborative project, Miras, works with Naarm-based writer, artist and musician Jahan Xanlü. Miras roots itself in Central and Southeast Asian instrumentation, utilising a blend of modern effects and traditional instrumentation to create unique doom metal soundscapes.
